Ali Remmelts neemt afscheid van Movies that Matter

Ali Remmelts says goodbye after 15 years as business director of the Movies that Matter Foundation, organizer of the human rights film festival of the same name. She has been involved in the event since it was called the Amnesty International Film Festival. Under her leadership, the festival grew into a nine-day film and debate festival with over 27,000 visitors and an extensive national education programme. The search for a successor has begun.

Five education hubs have again received a two-year project subsidy under the Film Education Hubs scheme. These hubs bring together supply and demand in the field of film education in the region in order to embed film education in education. De populariteit van AVOD streamingdiensten neemt toe

More and more consumers are opting for free and light streaming services, also known as AVOD, as a budget-friendly alternative to premium streaming services such as Netflix and HBO Max. Despite the advertisements that are displayed, these services offer a wide variety of films and TV shows and some even offer live TV channels and sporting events. The growth of these services is driven by the proliferation of cord-cutters and price increases in premium streaming services. While they won't replace the big players, they will continue to play a role in the streaming landscape.

Oscarwinnende filmproducent Cilia van Dijk overleden

Cilia van Dijk, an Oscar-winning animation producer, has passed away at the age of 81 after a short illness. She won the Oscar in 1986 as producer of the short animated film Anna & Bella, directed by Børge Ring. Van Dijk also produced many films by her husband, artist Gerrit van Dijk. She was made a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau and was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Koninklijke onderscheiding voor televisieproducent Roel Kooi
	Television producer Roel Kooi has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his special services to the Dutch media sector. Kooi was co-founder of production company Tuvalu Media and was the driving force behind the Oscar-nominated feature film Rundskop. He was also chairman of the umbrella organization of television producers and closely involved in the establishment of TV Academy.

The Minister of Culture and the director of the Film Center of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation have analyzed the past year and discussed new challenges for French-language Belgian film. There is an uptick in production activity, but audiences are slowly returning to cinemas. Many new projects are in development and there is better funding for Belgian cinema. There is also a new obligation for foreign broadcasters to contribute to the financing of national audiovisual creation.

Stemmingen wetsvoorstel Investeringsverplichting opnieuw uitgesteld

The votes on the Investment Obligation Bill have been postponed for the fourth time by the House of Representatives. This is because the House has not yet been able to take note of the new/adjusted amendments announced by the governing parties. The Dutch independent production sector is concerned about the dilution of the bill, which obliges streaming services to invest 4.5% of their annual turnover generated in the Netherlands in Dutch films, documentaries and series.
