The European Commission wants European films to be shown more in countries other than where they are produced. That is why she presented a new film strategy at the end of last week. In the strategy entitled European cinema in the digital age, the commission describes that although the number of films produced in Europe has increased from around 1,100 in 2008 to 1,300 in 2012, most films are only shown in theaters in the country where they are produced. The committee believes that there is too little distribution across borders.
