The US pay TV market has been in turmoil lately. In February, the largest US cable companies, Comcast and Time Warner Cable, announced they would merge in a transaction worth $45 billion. Now AT&T is also in discussions with satellite TV provider DirecTV about a takeover, which will cost at least 40 billion dollars (almost 29 billion euros). AT&T is the largest telephone company in the United States and DirecTV is the largest satellite TV provider with approximately 20 million subscribers.
