Felix van Groeningen's The Broken Circle Breakdown won the Satellite Award for Best International Film in Los Angeles last night. The film defeated, among others, its biggest Oscar rivals, Jagten by Tomas Vinterberg and La grande belezza by Paolo Sorentino. Other nominees included the French La vie d'Adèle and the Iranian The Past. The Satellite Awards are presented annually by the International Press Academy. Tension is rising in Los Angeles, where the Academy Awards will be presented for the 86th time in less than a week. The Satellite Awards are just about the last honors to be handed out before the final voting round for the Oscars closes on Tuesday night.
