The European Commission is opening an investigation into several contracts between major American film studios, such as Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox, and European pay channels, such as Canal Plus and BSkyB. The Commission is investigating the geographic restrictions often included in these deals. European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia opens a large-scale investigation into contracts between American film studios and European pay channels. More specifically, it will be investigated whether such contracts do not violate the competition rules that apply within the European Union.
