The BBC manager, who was suspended in May after an ambitious and expensive digitalization project completely failed, has received an automatic bonus of 140,000 pounds (almost 164,000 euros). The failure of the project cost the public broadcaster more than 117 million euros. DMI had to make the BBC work extensively digitally, but in practice analogue tapes often had to be dragged around because the system did not function. Linwood, with an annual salary of more than 327,000 euros, also continued to be paid until recently. The BBC states that reclaiming the bonus is not possible because it was not performance-related.
