American actress Karen Black died on Thursday in Los Angeles at the age of 74. Black, who became known to the general public from the late 1960s with films such as Easy Rider and Nashville, had been suffering from cancer since 2010. She achieved great success in 1970 with her portrayal of Rayette in the film Five Easy Pieces, where she played the lover of leading actor Jack Nicholson. It earned her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.
