Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi has accepted the invitation of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He thus becomes a member of the organization that can vote on the Oscars. Panahi was recently banned by Iranian authorities from making films or leaving Iran for the next twenty years. He was one of 276 filmmakers invited to join the Academy this year.
