The Purge was surprisingly the most successful film in the United States last weekend. The low-budget horror film grossed $36.4 million (27.6 million euros) in its opening weekend, relegating Fast & Furious 6 (19.8 million dollars) to second place. The Purge, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, was made for 3 million dollars and is set in the US in 2022, where the government wants to reduce crime by leaving all crimes unpunished for 12 hours.
