During the protests in Turkey in recent days, where dissatisfaction over a construction project on the site of a popular park turned into demonstrations against the authoritarian style of government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, both journalism and journalists have been victims. The use of water cannons, tear gas and in some cases extreme police violence left reporters and many demonstrators injured. It is striking how Turkish television - not just state channels - virtually ignored the protests.
