Austrian film director Michael Haneke won the Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts in Spain on Thursday. The award is one of the most important honors in the Spanish-speaking world. The amount is 50,000 euros. One of the other nominees was the Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta. For his latest film, Amour, the 71-year-old director received an Oscar for best foreign film in February. Amour is about an old couple whose relationship comes under strain when the woman suffers a cerebral infarction. The drama has already won numerous major awards last year, including a Golden Palm and a number of European Film Awards.
