Director Alfred Hitchcock considered his masterpiece Psycho a big joke. Hitchcock insulted the audience by, among other things, having the big star of the film, young actress Janet Leigh, murdered after an hour during the infamous shower scene. In the unknown BBC interview from 1964, Hitchcock states that the audience had completely misunderstood the film. "I found the story mostly amusing," says the director. "The whole film was a big joke to me. I was shocked to find that people were taking it all very seriously." Many women reportedly did not dare to take a shower after seeing the murder.
