Starting Monday, December 17, the 5,856 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can vote for the best films and actors of the past year. This is how they determine who gets the nominations for the Oscar ceremony on February 24, 2013. The thousands of members can vote electronically, or on the basis of a piece of paper that they throw into a ballot box, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced. It is the first time that voting can be done digitally. A telephone helpdesk has been set up for this purpose that members can call 24 hours a day if they are unable to resolve the issue.
