Spanish filmmaker and author José Luis Borau has died in Madrid at the age of 83. Borau was once the great hope of the Spanish film world at the end of General Franco's dictatorship (1939-1975). He achieved his greatest success in 1975 with the crime drama "Furtivos", for which he won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Two years later he was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for the film "La Camada Negra", for which Borau had written the screenplay.
