Bernardo Bertolucci receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Academy. The Italian filmmaker receives the prize because of 'his unique and dedicated contribution to the world of European cinema', the organization said on Tuesday.
The 72-year-old Bertolucci will receive the award personally during the 25th European Film Awards Ceremony on December 1 in Malta, where he is guest of honor. Bertolucci started his career as an assistant director to director Pier Paolo Passolini on the 1961 film Accatone. A year later, at the age of 21, he made his first feature film, La Commare Secca, for which he also wrote the screenplay.
