Ken Loach was honored on Tuesday afternoon in Venice with the Bresson Prize for his entire oeuvre. The British director made his first film 55 years ago. The 76-year-old Loach has been honored with the award, which is named after French filmmaker Robert Bresson and is presented on behalf of the Vatican.
“Everything in the name of Robert Bresson is a great honor because he is a great director. That makes this award very special,” said Loach. "Bresson had an eye for small tragedies in people's lives."
