American director Mel Stuart has died. The creator of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is 83 years old. Stuart started his career as a documentary maker and produced three editions of the series The Making of the President. He won an Emmy for the 1960 edition, which was about the election of John F. Kennedy. The documentary Four Days in November, about the assassination of the same president, earned Stuart an Oscar nomination.
