Marilyn Monroe has been dead for exactly fifty years today. The American sex symbol of the 1950s, who is still extremely popular, died in 1962 at the age of 36 as a result of an overdose of sleeping pills. Norma Jean Mortenson, as Monroe was actually called, appeared in dozens of films during her short career. She married several times, including baseball player Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller, and reportedly had an affair with President John F. Kennedy, whom she sang to on his birthday a few months before her death. There is also still speculation about Monroe's cause of death.
