Frank Pierson, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of legendary films such as Dog Day Afternoon and Cool Hand Luke, died on Monday. The former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was 87 years old. His family announced this to various media. Pierson won an Oscar in 1975 for the screenplay of Dog Day Afternoon and received Oscar nominations for Cat Ballou (1965) and Cool Hand Luke (1967).
