Director George Sluizer announced last month that he wanted to complete his never-finished River Phoenix film Dark Blood. In search of the last financial backers, he published two long-lost scenes this week. Production of Dark Blood still had 11 days of shooting left when River Phoenix died on the sidewalk of Hollywood nightclub The Viper Room on October 31, 1993 from an overdose of heroin and cocaine. The death of the only 23-year-old actor turned out to be the death knell for Sluizer's film. Due to legal wrangling, the unedited film reels end up in the safe of an insurance company. When the images were in danger of being lost in 1999, Sluizer had his film stolen back.
