Police in Tehran have closed a cinema in the Iranian capital that had previously sold tickets to women for the screening of the 2012 European Football Championship matches. Last Sunday, a police spokesperson announced a ban on the sale of tickets for the European Championship competitions for women. According to the AFP news agency, the cinema has now confirmed the closure without providing further details about the reason for the closure. When the ban was announced last Sunday, the police spokesperson said that the "vulgar behavior" of the men in the cinema halls during the matches makes it "inappropriate" to allow women to watch. The European Championship is very popular in Iran.
