Francesco Rosi receives a Golden Lion for his entire oeuvre at the Venice Film Festival. The Italian director and screenwriter is praised by the festival as an innovator of socially committed films. Festival director Alberto Barbera declares that 89-year-old Rosi has made 'an indelible impression' on the history of Italian film. The Italian has won several international prizes for his work. For example, he received a Golden Lion in 1963 for his film Le Mani Sulla Città and a Golden Palm in 1972 for Il Caso Mattei.
