For filmmaker Jan Thijssen there is no doubt. The Netherlands has three major modern artists: Van Gogh, Mondriaan and René Daniëls. 'Memoires of a Forgotten' premiered on Wednesday evening in the Eindhoven Music Building. In his documentary, Thijssen uses a lot of old film material that René Daniels himself made in the past. But the filmmaker also went with Daniëls to the world cities where the artist exhibited: New York, London and Paris. It produces beautiful images of art experts philosophizing about Daniël's work while the artist watches from a corner.
