A large-scale European study warns about the effect of drinking scenes in films. These would encourage young people to consume alcohol. "Those who watch films with many drinking scenes the most have the highest chance of binge drinking (ed.)," says Ron Scholte, who contributed to the study on behalf of the Behavioral Science Institute in Nijmegen. 'A link was found between viewing and drinking behavior in every country studied.' This is partly because the negative effects of excessive drinking are rarely seen in films. Scholte calls on the government to intervene.
