Chantal Akerman is more than likely the Belgian director with the most mentions in international film studies. In the 1970s she was one of the key extras of European avant-garde and feminist cinema. She recently released a new film, La Folie Almayer. The retrospective exhibition Too Far, Too Close is also running in Antwerp's M HKA. But to find reports about this in the media, you need a magnifying glass. That is not very strange: not every year a Flemish film is nominated for an Oscar (beef). Akerman also doesn't make films that you go to for fun. Yet the sense of proportion is lost.
