Bachir Boumaaza is busy. The Antwerp top gamer, best known by his alter ego Athene, has become a true internet sensation in just a few years. He now uses that popularity to fight against draconian bills that threaten freedom on the internet.
"We are activists first and foremost," says Reese Leysen, cameraman, technician and community manager of Boumaaza. 'Gamers often have a very active mindset and respond quickly when activism is needed. On sites like Reddit you see that they show a lot of interest in science and world issues. That is why we mainly focus on building an audience through our passion, gaming-related entertainment.'
