Women are strongly underrepresented in VTM broadcasts, conclude researchers from the Electronic News Archive of the Antwerp and Leuven universities. Among the "elite sources" - who are interviewed because of their position - 17 percent of the speaking time goes to women. Men also dominate with witnesses or people in the street, with 57 percent of the speaking time. And there is hardly any progress. The only exceptions are testimonials from parents and patients with 56 percent of speaking time for women, and young female politicians who make up 87 percent of speaking time in their category.
