The Dutch actor and operetta singer Johannes Heesters has died. The world's oldest actor turned 108 on December 5. It is especially popular in the German-speaking area. Heesters acted on stage and was also seen in several (television) films. In 1924 he made his stage debut with Willem Royaards. Three years later he made his film debut alongside Louis Bouwmeester. In the Netherlands, his role during WWII is controversial because he often collaborated on German films before and during the war, performed in German theaters and did not explicitly distance himself from the Nazi regime.
