The VRT wants to refine its vision on the use of language on public broadcasting. The use of the standard language remains the principle, but variations are possible depending on the program genre, the role of the speaker and the medium. The proposal from the public broadcaster's Language Steering Group should result in a renewed VRT language charter, which will be submitted to the VRT management. "Just like the Dutch Language Union, the VRT recognizes the variation within the standard language and will also make it heard," said a press release. The Language Steering Group believes that shades should be possible, adapted to genre, role and medium, such as a slight accent in the tongue or the use of dialect and interlanguage.
