The Dutch version of the TV program Sesame Street has existed for 35 years. The American Sesame Street was intended to teach toddlers and preschoolers from disadvantaged families to read and write, says developmental psychologist Dolph Kohnstamm, one of the people who brought the program from the US to the Netherlands in the 1970s.
