American director and screenwriter Joseph Brooks killed himself in his New York apartment on Sunday. Brooks owed his fame to the 1977 musical film 'You light up my life', which he both produced and directed. The title song from the picture was honored with an Oscar. The song was later used in films, including "Indecent Proposal". Brooks, who was facing a trial for multiple rapes, was 73.
