Streaming services in Australia invested nearly AUD$1.1 billion ($719 million) in local content in the 2024-25 financial year, exceeding traditional broadcasters, according to a report from the Australian Communications and Media Authority. This investment follows recent legislation that introduced mandatory content quotas for streaming services. Paul Muller of the Streaming for Australia Coalition argues that this legislation is unnecessary, as streamers already invest more in Australian productions than local broadcasters.
