Prime Minister Bart De Wever and the Belgian government have reached a budget agreement that will save €9.2 billion, partly by increasing the tax on cinema tickets from 6 to 12 percent. This falls under a new "harmonized" VAT rate that also applies to other entertainment and services such as hotels and campsites. This increase comes despite declining cinema attendance, with high ticket prices being considered a major reason for the decline.
