Cato Kusters won the Jo Röpcke Award at Film Fest Ghent 2025 for her debut film, "Julian." The film, which opened the festival, is based on the lives of Fleur Pierets and Julian Boom, who married in countries where same-sex marriage is legal. After four marriages, Julian is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Kusters, who co-wrote the screenplay with Angelo Tijssens, received praise for her handling of themes such as gay rights and illness. Actresses Nina Meurisse and Laurence Roothooft received praise for their performances.
