Esmé Lammers's children's classic "Long Live the Queen," about a girl learning to play chess, is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary and is being re-released at Eye. The film, which debuted in 1995, won awards at the Cinekid festival and the Golden Calves. The story, inspired by a chess lesson taught by Lammers' grandfather Max Euwe, combines magical realism with a feminist slant. Lammers describes the film as her most personal work, focusing on the theme of finding your own path.
