Film producer Johan Nijenhuis, known for his work on the television series Woeste Grond (Woeste Grond), among other projects, is critical of how taxpayer money is spent in the Dutch film industry. In a blog post, he pinpoints the problem: millions in subsidies are being spent on films that barely attract an audience.

"A farmer can buy a calf for about 500 euros. A Golden Calf, in practice, costs over a million," writes Nijenhuis. "Fortunately, the producer doesn't have to pay for that himself: the taxpayer foots the bill."
