Robert Jan Westdijk rose to fame thirty years ago with his debut film "Zusje" (Little Sister). He found inspiration for the screenplay in a personal moment filming his sister and her boyfriend. This led to the idea of a subjectively narrated film. Westdijk, who started out as a family filmmaker, missed the opportunity to make a graduation film due to technical problems and graduated in editing. He ultimately financed "Zusje" through a limited partnership and won a Golden Calf for Best Film at the 1995 Netherlands Film Festival.
