Director Sven Bresser's film "Rietland," which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, is the Netherlands' Oscar submission. The film tells the story of Johan, an elderly reed cutter who finds the lifeless body of a teenage girl and then tries to solve the murder himself within his closed farming community. Inspired by his childhood in a reed-rich landscape, Bresser explores themes of guilt and violence. "Rietland" premieres at the Netherlands Film Festival on October 1st and opens in theaters on October 9th.
