The Finnish film industry is outraged by the proposed government cuts of €7 million, which will take effect on January 1, 2026. Lasse Saarinen, CEO of the Finnish Film Foundation, fears that this will halve production support, resulting in fewer documentaries, short films, and fewer than 10 feature films. Zaida Bergroth and other prominent directors have expressed their concerns, with Bergroth emphasizing that young filmmakers will be hit hardest. The industry fears that these cuts will severely damage Finnish film culture.
