The Netherlands Production Incentive has significantly boosted the Dutch film sector's growth over the past ten years, tripling its financial size and increasing the number of employees by 31%. This is partly due to the rise of streaming services and a temporary increase in the market share of Dutch films during the coronavirus pandemic. The program, which has existed since 2014, offers producers a cash rebate of up to 35% on local expenditures. However, in 2024, the program was oversubscribed, leading to uncertainty and potential relocation to other countries. The Netherlands Film Fund is considering adjusting the program to make it future-proof.
