Sophie van Bree will present her short documentary "Als de zee" (Like the Sea) at the 2025 Netherlands Film Festival. The film follows Kim, a 25-year-old with obsessive-compulsive thoughts, who starts a surfing program for young people with mental health issues. Van Bree, who herself struggles with anxiety, aims to show the vulnerability and strength in her characters. She dreams of a feature-length documentary set in Scotland and advocates for more intuition and less sobriety in Dutch films. "Als de zee" will also be broadcast on NPO 2 and is available on npodoc.nl and NPO Start.
