Hein Boele, the Dutch voice of Elmo on Sesame Street, has died at the age of 85 after a short illness. Boele, who played Elmo for forty years, passed away on July 28th in Almere. His portrayal of Elmo, known for his giggles, made him an iconic extra in Dutch television history. Boele perfected his voice for Elmo after adjustments by Kevin Clash, the American voice of Elmo since 1984. In 2001, he met Clash in person during the 25th anniversary of Sesame Street.
