Rudolf van den Berg, known for his socio-political documentaries and feature films, died on July 12, shortly after filming his final film about the philosopher Spinoza. Van den Berg made his debut in 1984 with the film "Bastille" and often explored themes of identity and diaspora, as in "Searching for Eileen" and "The Evenings." His career was marked by both successes, including several Golden Calves, and obstacles, including projects that struggled to get off the ground. Van den Berg's work often reflected his personal quest and intellectual approach to cinema.
