In the documentary "De Propagandist" (2024) by Luuk Bouwman, the boundary between engagement and propaganda in film is examined. The film tells the story of Jan Teunissen, who was head of the NSB Filmdienst during World War II and carried out a propaganda plan. Bouwman sheds light on how films could spread nationalistic and fascist ideas without room for contradiction. The documentary, awarded as best Dutch film at the IDFA, uses old film footage and commentary by historians to paint a picture of the manipulative power of cinema in wartime.
