"From Dust", a VR opera by Michel van der Aa, has won the Immersive Competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This is the first Dutch win since 1967. The competition, which emphasizes spatiality, AI and haptic feedback, also featured other Dutch works such as "VR Lacuna" by Maartje Wegdam and Nienke Broeren-Huitenga. Van der Aa's win confirms the strength of the Dutch XR scene. The competition focuses on new forms of storytelling and technological integration in art.
