Gerard Soeteman, well-known screenwriter and director, passed away on May 16, 2025 at the age of 88 after a short illness. Soeteman was best known for his long-term collaboration with director Paul Verhoeven, with whom he made successful films such as "Turkish Delight" and "Soldaat van Oranje". He also worked with Fons Rademakers and Jan Bosdriesz. Soeteman criticized Verhoeven's film "Benedetta" and had his name removed from the credits. In 2017, he received a Golden Calf for his entire oeuvre.
