'Reedland', the debut feature by Dutch director Sven Bresser, premiered during the Cannes Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, with cinematography by Sam du Pon, explores themes of nature, ritual, violence, ambiguity and evil through the story of reed cutter Johan who finds the lifeless body of a girl and struggles with an unclear sense of guilt. While caring for his granddaughter, he searches for evil. The film is set in a landscape similar to where Bresser grew up and uses non-professional actors, including Gerrit Knobbe.
