In 2028, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences will introduce a new Oscar category for best stunts, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Oscars. The initiative comes from director and former stuntman David Leitch, known for films such as "Deadpool 2" and "John Wick". Leitch emphasizes the importance of stunts in film history and the contribution of stunt designers and performers. Previously, stuntmen only received special Oscars, such as Hal Needham and Yakima Canutt. The SAG Awards have awarded a prize for stunt ensembles since 2007.
