German director Werner Herzog will be honored with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. Known for films including "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo," Herzog recently completed a documentary in Africa and is currently working on a new feature film in Ireland. Artistic director Alberto Barbera praised Herzog as an innovator of the New German Cinema and emphasized his continued challenge of the boundaries of film. The festival runs from August 27 to September 6.
