In his short film "Draw and See the World", director Safi Graauw highlights the contribution of Suriname and Curaçao during the Second World War. The film, which won two awards at the Go Short International Film Festival in Nijmegen, tells the story of three Surinamese soldiers in the Princess Irene Brigade. Graauw emphasizes the importance of the role of the former colonies and black soldiers in the war, an underexposed aspect of Dutch history. He hopes that the film will eventually be shown in schools.
